Father’s Day and June in general is a bit of a tough time for me – I lost my Dad in 2013 and as if that wasn’t hard enough, it happened just a few days after Father’s Day. But we love occasions like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day in our household. Some people are cynical about ‘made up occasions’ like these, but we always like to celebrate them, and buy each other gifts and cards. So just because my Dad sadly isn’t here anymore, I didn’t want that to stop me sharing some great Father’s Day finds with you all, especially if your Dad is anything like mine was, and adores food!
Some of these I’ve tried myself (or other similar products from the company) and some are simply gifts I’ve come across online that I liked the look of.
For the sweet-toothed Dad!
Personalised Dad’s Big Breakfast Tin, from Biscuiteers, £43.50
As you may know from my previous blog posts, I love Biscuiteers. You might think that £40+ is a bit expensive for a biscuit tin, but the biscuits really are beautifully decorated, taste delicious, and their personalised tins make a great gift. The Big Breakfast Tin comes with 16 individually iced biscuits. Although once your Dad tries the first one, they probably won’t last for long…
Marshmallow Toasting Kit, from The Naked Marshmallow, £12.75
Great if your Dad has a sweet tooth but also likes to play with his food 😉 This marshmallow toasting kit should be a lot of fun – it includes two bags of marshmallow, a burner and bamboo skewers. The marshmallow flavours sound delicious – you can choose from vanilla, coconut, eton mess, candy floss, salted caramel, lemon meringue, fruits of the forest and peppermint and dark chocolate.
For the meat-loving Dad!
Dad Pork Pie (£18.50) and Great British Breakfast For Two (£22.95) from Farmison
If your Dad is more into meat than sweets, Farmison have some great meaty gifts for Father’s Day.
Bacon Curing Kit, from Ross and Ross, £20.00
If your Dad likes experimenting in the kitchen, why don’t you get him a bacon curing kit? It comes with curing mixes (original, sweet and smoky), curing bags, muslin, gloves, a butcher’s hook and those all important instructions! You just need to buy some pork to use with the kit.
For the curry-loving Dad!
Father’s Day Gift Box from Tastesmiths, £13.50
One of the first events that I attended as a food blogger earlier this year was for Tastesmiths, a fantastic mother and daughter-run company offering everything you need to cook a fantastic curry from scratch in a pack! You can read the full write-up about it here, but I thought that this gift, with 4 kits, a mini bottle of Tabasco Sauce and a personalised card, would be perfect for a Dad who loves a good curry!
Hot Stuff in a Matchbox, from Marvling Bros, £5.99
If your Dad likes curry, the likeliness is, he’s into his spice. But just how far is he prepared to go? This fun gift from Marvling Bros is a matchbox (all of their products are sold in matchboxes) containing four of the hottest chilli powders in the world; the current world champion Scorpion Moruga (2,000,000 SHU), a former world hottest Butch T (1,500,000 SHU), the legendary 7 Pot (1,300,000 SHU) , and the ten minute burner Ghost powder (1,000,000 SHU). Each powder is presented in a tiny cork glass bottle, with a fact card.
For the BBQ-er Dad!
Delux 4 piece BBQ Tool Set, from Selections, £21.99
Make sure Dad has got the top utensils to cook up a storm – I really like the look of this BBQ set. It includes stainless steel BBQ tongs, a pig’s bristles brush, BBQ fork and BBQ spatula with bottle opener, all in a handy carrying/storage canvas case. The handles are made of durable ash wood.
Personalised BBQ Seasoning & Spice Storage Box, from Potting Shed Designs, via NOTHS, £30.00
I came across this on Not On The High Street and thought it was really cute. A nice little storage box for Dad to have outside with his BBQ and a chalkboard to write up the menu for the day!
For the Dad who loves a tipple!
Gin Tasting And Distillery Tour for Two, from Sipsmiths, via NOTHS, £60.00
I love the Sipsmiths brand and range of spirits. This tour is the perfect gift for any gin-loving Dad. It lasts for 1.5 hours (taking place in Chiswick, West London) and includes two tour vouchers and a 70cl bottle of London Dry Gin.
For the cheese-loving Dads!
Best Dads Cheese Box, from West Country Cheese Co, £24.00
As I’ve written about previously on here, we got our ‘wedding cake of cheeses‘ from West County Cheese Co and it was just superb! They have a Father’s Day box available to buy online which includes Sharpham Brie (200g), Devon Blue (200g), Vulscombe Goat (180g) and Cornish Gouda (200g) – they’ll even throw in an adorable Monty Mouse!
Personalised Cheeseboard/Chopping Board, from The Rustic Dish, from £7.99
The Rustic Dish sells a wide range of cheese boards/chopping boards of all shapes and sizes, which you can personalise. A great way for your Dad to serve his cheese to guests at dinner parties!
I hope this has given you some inspiration! Don’t forget, Father’s Day is on Sunday 21st June!
