A ‘Thrifty Organic’ Dinner with Deliciously Ella

I’ve come across a number of fantastic blogs that focus on being thrifty and I’m always so inspired by what they can achieve with such little spend. I was always fairly thrifty when I was younger and I’m still happy to buy my clothes from somewhere cheaper rather than splashing out on designer numbers. When it comes to food, I don’t think that it always has to be expensive to be good, but I’m very conscious of quality, especially with regards to meat. For this reason, I’ve found that food seems to be the one area in my life where I do spend more. I was recently invited to a very exciting event at Whole Foods Market in Kensington, hosted by The Organic Trade Board and the lovely Ella Woodward of Deliciously Ella. In case you’re not aware of her (but if not, where have you BEEN?!) Ella started blogging back in 2011 after being diagnosed with the rare illness, Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. She was able to take control of this illness (which was causing chronic …

The Best Burger of MY LIFE at Honest Burgers, Tooting

For a long, long time, I’d been meaning to pay a visit to Honest Burgers. I’d heard rave reviews and knew I would love it, but just didn’t get round to it. On Friday night, Tim and I made a fairly spontaneous decision to go there for dinner in Tooting on the way home. And I’m so glad I did, because I had the best burger I’ve ever had in my life. That’s a bold statement. But I’m sticking by it… (please excuse the photos – I didn’t have my good camera with me as I wasn’t expecting to go for dinner). I ordered the Special – Beef, Black Forest Bacon, Bavarian Smoked Cheddar, Sauerkraut and Currywurst Sauce. All burgers are served with Rosemary Salted Chips. Now I’ve tried a lot of burgers, many of which I’ve written about on here. So you might be wondering what made this one so great. 1. The burger itself was delicious. Honest Burgers source their meat from Ginger Pig butchers, which as regular readers will know, I’m a huge …

Tea & View ‘Pairing’ with Dragonfly Tea

What is your favourite view? This was a question posed to me recently by Dragonfly Tea. They’ve been researching the best views in Britain and have put together a clever tea and view ‘pairing’ method, to celebrate these views with the perfect cuppa! Along with the British Guild Of Travel Writers, they have travelled around the UK with their yellow chair, snapping beautiful photos representing the perfect view and tea moments, which have now been made into a beautiful book. Here’s the chair at the Roman Baths in Bath, one of my favourite UK cities: The tea suggestion given for this location is Big Red Robe, imperial in its own right and hailed as a life-saving elixir during the Ming dynasty. After it revived the Emperor’s sick mother, the bushes were cloaked in rich red robes in honour of the tea’s restorative qualities. And another at The Japanese Garden in Tatton Park, Cheshire: Here, Gyokuro Green Tea (also known as the ‘Dew Jewel‘ of Japanese tea gardens) is recommended. The process to create the flavour involves …

September 2015: A New Job, A Bit of Baking and Fab Events!

Unlike August, September was a much quieter month on the blogging front for me. I started working at a new company and so was without a laptop for a while between jobs. Which made blogging near impossible! It was a very strange feeling – for the past nine months I’ve been posting nearly every weekday, so I felt weirdly out of the loop. But I still managed to get some posts out, so here’s a round-up for September in case you missed anything! Restaurants I visited… I tried out my first Bánh mì at Keu in Shoreditch. Read more here. I had a truly great brekkie at MUD in Tooting. Read more here. Tim and I had a fabulous tasting menu experience at Charlotte’s Place in Ealing. Read more here. Kelly joined me for some epic sandwiches and milkshakes at Potbelly in Stratford. Read more here. Events I attended… I was kindly invited by Zomato to a jamón carving masterclass, which was great fun (and lots of ham tasting!) Read more here. I also met the …

Lunch at Mannion and Co, York

Since my Mum moved back to the UK earlier in the year, I’ve been able to make quite a few trips back up to Yorkshire and my hometown, York. It’s such a pretty city! During my last visit, we had lunch at Mannion and Co in the city centre. We came across the deli style window display and after peeking inside, thought it looked great! As the weather was nice, we thought we’d make the most of the end of Summer and sit outside in the courtyard. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was small and quaint and a perfect spot to soak up the last of the sun. The Mannion family first opened this premise as a green grocers 25 years ago, and over time they have restored the Tudor frontage visible from the courtyard. The business is now a joint venture between John Mannion and his son in law, Andrew Burton, who works as the Head Chef and has won numerous rosettes and Michelin stars for many of the county’s best restaurants and hotels. John …
