I was recently invited by friend and fellow blogger Chris Osburn (aka Tiki Chris) to an eatery near Liverpool Street station called Barraka. There were two reasons for this event – firstly, to experience Barraka’s excellent food and hospitality, but also to learn about a new company called Whichit, who Chris has been working with, and I will discuss later in this post.
The team at Barraka kindly hosted the evening and served up a number of dishes from their menu for us to try. The definition of ‘Barraka’ in Moroccan is ‘Blessing’ and the owner explained how it was always a tradition in his family to‘bless’ people with good energies and food. The cuisine served at Barraka is a fusion of cultures and influences, with wraps, baguettes and salads filled with everything from halloumi, to chorizo, to chicken schnitzel! They describe it as ‘Mediterranean Street Food Made Fresh’ which seemed spot on to me.
They were also very keen to sing the praises of tahini, which I am all for! Houmous is so popular in the UK now, but growing up in Cyprus, we rarely had it. Tahini (made from ground sesame seeds) was always served at the start of the meal, with other dips such as tzatziki and taramasalata, with bread and salad.
We were each invited into the kitchen to create our own dish – I went for a chicken and halloumi salad.
It was gorgeous – everything looked and tasted completely fresh and had so much flavour to it. These guys know what they’re doing!
As I mentioned, the evening was hosted by Whichit. It’s an interactive content platform which helps online publishers create polls that can be embedded to enrich content and power native advertising – if any bloggers or anyone who runs a website is reading this and fancies finding out more, you can visit their website here. You can also see an example of where Chris used it in one of his posts, here.
And if you fancy popping in to Barraka for some lunch (if you work in the Liverpool Street area I’m very jealous you have this place so close), they’re at 7 Artillery Lane, or you can find out more on their website here.
I was invited to Barraka by Tiki Chris and Whichit but did not receive any payment. All views are my own.
