#FoodieFriends: Mel’s Fish Pie and Easy Lemon Meringue Ice Cream Recipes

I haven’t had a new #FoodieFriends post up on here for a while, so I’m very excited for this one from Mel. I have known Mel since I was around 8 years old – she and her husband Lloyd were our neighbours when we lived in Yorkshire and we have all been friends ever since. Here’s a serious throwback photo from 2009 when Dad was still with us: Lloyd also did a beautiful reading for us at our wedding. Mel is a fantastic cook and it’s a real treat to be invited round for dinner. I was up visiting my mum a couple of weeks ago and Mel cooked us a delicious fish pie, followed by an ice cream meringue pudding, which she was kind enough to share the recipes for: Fish Pie Mixture of cod, smoked haddock, salmon & cooked prawns Place all fish except prawns into a dish and cook for 10 mins in preheated oven of 180c covered with 1 pint of milk, seasoning, 2 bay leaves and some dried thyme. Drain …

#FoodieFriends – Dan’s Trip to Tom’s Table

A big thank you to Dan for sharing his experience of the Tom Kerridge pop-up at Harrods!… I’ve wanted to go to Tom Kerridge’s incredibly popular Gastropub ‘The Hand and Flowers’ for some time, however given they don’t follow the usual ‘book-a-month-in-advance’ policy of most restaurants, Tom is clearly a believer in the old proverb that ‘good things come to those who wait’ – the next dinner reservation they have is in August at time of writing! So when my parents noticed that Tom was doing a pop up restaurant in Harrods, we jumped at the chance and managed to snaffle a booking. We had no idea what to expect as it was vague on detail, and transpired to be a temporary mini counter style restaurant set up in the food court. When I say mini counter I mean it – there were maybe 30 covers in the place but the area the chefs were cooking in was incredibly small, as you can see in the picture below. I know when I cook properly I …

#FoodieFriends – Hannah’s Thai Ice Cream Experience at Yumitub

My latest #FoodieFriends post is from the lovely Hannah Fish, who has written about her experience at YumiTub in Brixton – a very cool new Thai rolled ice cream company (yes, you read that right!) Over to you, Hannah 🙂 Just as I thought I had done the rounds of the culinary delights on offer in Brixton market, Pop arrived – just in time for the summer! This new events space (created from shipping containers) plays host to a number of local craft traders and has a range of culinary options to choose from. Amongst them is an ice cream maker with a twist. Formed in 2015, Yumitub is no traditional cone and flake affair. The process starts with ice cream in a liquid form (chocolate or vanilla) which is poured onto a cold plate – that resembles a crepe plate.     Traditional tools and a chopping motion are then used to move the ice cream around the plate and gradually this becomes a more solid mass of melted ice cream. Then comes the …

#FoodieFriends – Dan’s Review of The Pass Restaurant

This week’s #FoodieFriends post is from Dan Ericsson, a friend from University. He has an excellent taste in all things food and drink and has written about The Pass restaurant at South Lodge Hotel in Sussex. Funnily enough, it’s a sister company to Pennyhill Park, which I wrote about earlier this week. Great foodie minds think alike 😉 “It’s been four and a bit years since I moved from Sussex to London, hoping to find my fortune and some amazing food alongside it. Whilst restaurant-hunting has undeniably been successful with London’s excellent restaurant scene and a strong collection of favourites….. I’m painfully aware of the irony that if you offered me a meal anywhere in the country I’d pick somewhere about 20 minutes from where I grew up. Seeing a photo of the restaurant itself and the hotel containing it you wouldn’t connect the two at all. The hotel is a lovely country manor, and walking into the reception area there’s a definite sense of it being the perfect setting for a Poirot novel. The …

#FoodieFriends – My Mum’s Visit To BBC Good Food Show Spring

I’m very excited to have a post on the blog from my very own ‘Mumsie’ – I’m sure my mum will happily admit to being a technophobe – she doesn’t have any social media accounts, so having her words written up on here is really exciting for me. She’s written about her experience at the BBC Good Food Show Spring in Harrogate in April. Keeping with the theme of the photos from #FoodieFriends so far, here’s a pic of Mum on our wedding day earlier this year, doing a fantastic speech that had everyone in hysterics!  I’ve also noticed how much I write like her!! Over to you, Mumsie! “Earlier this year, together with two friends, I visited the BBC Good Food Show, held at the Harrogate International Centre. Having only recently returned from living in Cyprus, where ‘Food Shows’ are few and far between, I was eagerly awaiting this new experience! From the minute we walked through the doors, into the first ‘Hall’ we were greeted with a vast array of stands, housing everything …

#FoodieFriends – Poppy’s Chocolate Orange Mousse

Next up on #FoodieFriends is my wonderful sister-in-law, Pops! Poppy does some fantastic dinner parties and is a brilliant baker. She was also a bridesmaid at our wedding – here she is looking gorge walking down the aisle ahead of me. I’ll need a recipe from my third bridesmaid, Laura, next! 😉 Poppy’s Recipe: Chocolate Orange Mousse by Delia Smith “I first got told about this chocolate mouse from my Mother and Father who thought it was literally ‘to die for!’ And couldn’t wait to share their findings! It is one of Delia Smith’s classic baking recipes – I mean, who doesn’t love a good Delia? It is decadent but light and full of guilty pleasures!! I have made this recipe twice and both times it has gone down an absolute treat! I serve it with a slither of something citrusy – either grapefruit or orange, some berries and a Terry’s chocolate orange! The recipe calls for popping it into the fridge for a few hours but I have done this with minimal time and …

#FoodieFriends – Ceri’s Squash, Red Lentil & Coconut Curry

This is the very first post in my new series ‘#FoodieFriends’. Many of my friends and family members are also into good food, so I thought it would be fun to dedicate a section to them. They’re not bloggers, so it gives them a place to share their recipes, restaurant experiences, and more! The first of these posts is from my amazing bestie, Ceri, who I’m sure you’ll have already read about on here. Here she is, looking stunning as my bridesmaid on my wedding day:   Ceri’s Recipe: Squash, Red Lentil & Coconut Curry, by Hemsley + Hemsley “I spotted this recipe on the Hemsley + Hemsley Instagram account as their recipe of the day and was keen to try it out having heard such good things. It was easy to make, apart from the cutting of the butternut squash (a sharp knife and arm muscles would have been useful!). It was worth it though, in not much time at all I had a delicious, heart-warming curry. I topped up the amount of chilli flakes …
