A South African Lunch at Bunnychow, Soho

Have you ever been to Bunnychow? It’s a South African street food style restaurant and the concept is simple – they serve hollowed out bread with a warm filling inside (and a bread lid!) It was first created in Durban in the 1940’s and has been popular ever since. It’s basically my heaven (if it included cheese it would be pure perfection!) I first visited them when they were temporarily set up in Box Park in Shoreditch a year or two ago – I had the meatball Bunnychow and it was delicious! I recently went to their permanent site in Soho during my lunch break. They had certainly expanded their menu since my first visit – you now choose your bread type, filling and then topping. They also sell a number of South African snacks, such as biltong. I went for the wholemeal bread with the Durban Mutton Curry filling and coleslaw topping.
