Dinner at Inn The Park, St James’s Park

There are some stunning parks in London, but one that I seem to forget about is St James’s. Tucked in between Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace, it’s actually a real beauty, as I discovered when I went for dinner at Inn The Park with Sophie recently. The name is quite self explanatory – it’s a wooden, almost chalet-style building located right in the middle of the park. We were seated outside overlooking the park and lake (and plenty of joggers, but we turned a blind eye to them as we knocked back the wine!!) and it was certainly a lovely spot. The menu at Inn The Park is separated into small plates, main courses and desserts. We weren’t completely sure how big the small plates would be (there was a special offer to share three between two people) but we decided to go for one each. An Indoor Gourmet Picnic

Earlier in the month I came across a competition from ‘Holidayscottages.co.uk’, asking bloggers to write about their favourite picnic recipes. Considering that picnics have always been a big thing in our family, and in fact, are the reason for the name of this blog, I had to give it a go! The only slight problem – this is a picnic competition… in April. A time when the weather is temperamental to say the least, here in the UK. Last week had been the hottest week of the year so far, with sunshine and temperatures up to about 23 degrees! Yet the one day I had set aside to do my picnic (Sunday) turned out to be fairly chilly and overcast. But I wasn’t to be deterred – instead, I set up a picnic area in our own living room! Easter Baking: Simnel Tear and Share

I’d been pondering over what to bake over Easter for some time. For the past few years I’ve made cookie dough meringues (I’ll put the recipe on here one day, they’re incredible), an apple pie and creme egg brownies. But none of them had been using ‘traditional’ Easter flavours. I watched The Great British Bake Off Easter Masterclass, where Mary Berry made a Simnel Cake and Paul Hollywood made hot cross buns (he also made Tsoureki, but I don’t think I’m quite there yet, as much as I love it, it looks quite challenging to bake!) After browsing various websites, I came across a recipe on BBC Good Food for a Simnel Tear and Share, which combines the flavours of a Simnel Cake, Hot Cross Buns and Chelsea Buns. So I thought I’d give it a go! I’d actually never baked using yeast before (I’ve usually made cakes rather than bread) so I was expecting it to be a bit of a challenge. Champagne Lunch at Club Gascon

When I sadly left my old job at 2K at the end of last year, I was given a wonderful leaving gift – a champagne lunch for two people at Club Gascon – they know me very well!! Tim and I went along to the restaurant in Farringdon a few weeks ago, during our lunch break. As a Michelin-starred French restaurant, the service is impeccable, as you would expect. But it was, without a doubt, the best lunch break I’ve ever had! We were greeted with a glass of champagne and a delicious amuse bouche. I chose the crackling slow cooked egg, truffle and salted fingers, followed by the winter veal variation, confit salsifis and bacon. Both were to die for and even the small touches, such as the breads and accompaniments, were excellent.     I was given this gift via Truly Experiences. I hadn’t come across them before, but the service was great – they managed the restaurant booking and made sure I had everything I needed. The gift was given to me …
