The Moretti Gran Tour 2017, Hyde Park

For the past few two years I’ve been to the Moretti Gran Tour in London and I’ve written about it on here. The first in 2015 was in Hackney (which I wrote about here) and last year it was just off Brick Lane (more here). As you might have guessed by the name, it’s an event from Birra Moretti, a beautiful Italian beer which is all too easy to drink, especially on these warm summer evenings. The Moretti Gran Tour has always been a celebration of Italian food and culture. The 2015 venue was enclosed and cosy, a real foodie’s delight. They also had a great little feature where you were given a ‘passport’ at the start of the night which you got stamped as you visited the various Italian food vendors – very appealing to geeks like me who like to ‘complete’ things! Last year’s event was a bit bigger and outdoors, but with an even broader selection of excellent grub on offer, including some beautiful seafood in addition to the pizza and pasta. …

Lunch at Le Camerelle, Capri

You may have read my last post about exploring Capri – if not, you can check it out here. While we were there, we wanted to go somewhere nice for lunch (obviously, this is Got To Be Gourmet after all!) but we were going for a fancy (and rather expensive!) dinner that evening back in Sorrento, so we didn’t want to go too overboard. It seems to be quite tricky to find places around both Sorrento and Capri that are reasonably priced but aren’t very touristy. I’m all for basic hearty Italian food, but I want to know that it’s actually genuine. We stumbled across a restaurant called Le Camerelle in Capri old town which was just what we wanted – a lovely setting with fresh Italian pasta and seafood. We were seated outside in our own quaint little two-seater shaded booth with a gorgeous view – there were around 10 of these which lined the street – otherwise you could dine in the main restaurant. Moretti Gran Tour 2016

You may have read my post last summer about the Moretti Gran Tour in Hackney, a brilliant evening of Italian street food vendors and, as you might have guessed, Moretti beer! It was one of my favourite foodie events I went to last year – it was just so well all organised and all of the food was incredibly tasty and authentic. So when I was invited to go again this year, I couldn’t wait! This year’s event was held just off Brick Lane in East London and was completely out in the open, so it was pretty fortunate we were experiencing  a heat wave. It was the perfect weather for an event like this – enjoying an ice cold beer in the evening sun. Birra Moretti have recently launched the Regionali Range, featuring Birra Moretti alla Toscana and Birra Moretti alla Siciliana, which was available to sample for the first time in the UK. An Italian Brunch at Pulia, Borough Market

Last summer I visited a restaurant in Borough Market that has remained at the top of my ‘must return’ list (you can read my previous write-up here). But the months flew by and I realised I hadn’t been back yet when I was invited back to try out their new brunch menu. I literally couldn’t wait! The food and hospitality was superb during my last visit and I’m pleased to say that it was still equally great. I headed there for brunch on Sunday morning at 10am and by 1pm I eventually heaved myself up from the table, full of fantastic food. You know a brunch is pretty epic when it lasts for three hours! Dinner at Pasta Remoli, Finsbury Park

I was recently invited for dinner at Pasta Remoli in Finsbury Park. I don’t know the area very well but a friend of mine lives there, so it was the perfect opportunity for us to have a catch up over some yummy Italian food! Pasta Remoli is located a stone’s throw from Finsbury Park tube station and has a lovely rustic yet modern feel to it. Chef Simon Remoli was born and raised in Rome, inspired by his own mother’s fabulous home cooking. He trained in Rome before moving to and working in London, but he was disappointed with the quality of pasta that was being served in some of London’s top restaurants. He wanted to be able to offer customers a diverse range of fresh home made pastas and sauces, giving them the opportunity to customise their meal as they see fit. And so Pasta Remoli was born. A Pasta Education from Jamie’s Italian

As you probably know, I absolutely adore pasta. When I was a child, I had pasta with tuna, mayonnaise and peas for lunch at school every day for at least a couple of years. I think my teachers thought I was a little bit insane. I’d still be eating it every day now if I had the same metabolism as a seven year old! The team at Jamie’s Italian recently sent me this infographic on different types of pasta, where they originate from and the history behind them, so I thought it would be interesting to share with you all – there were certainly some types in here I’d never heard of or tried: I thought I’d try out a recipe from Jamie Oliver’s website to include in this post, and this one really took my fancy – Chicken, Leek, Pea and Pasta Bake. Dinner at Eco, Clapham Common

I’m sure you all know by now that I adore Italian cuisine, but I hadn’t actually visited any Italian restaurants nearer to where I live, now that I’m south of the river. A week or so ago, I was kindly invited to try out Eco in Clapham with Ceri – I’d driven past it a few times and it had always looked really cosy and inviting, with a big orange pizza oven in the middle. We kicked things off with some bread, olives and cocktails – I started on a Bloody Mary (using organic tomato and balsamic) and Ceri had a Gin Giardino (gin, elderflower syrup, apple and cucumber). Both were lovely, although the Gin cocktail had the edge for me, so I moved on to this one afterwards! They were a little too easy to drink!! The menu really made our mouths water.
