My Dream Hamper from Basco Fine Foods

I have found my ultimate hamper. It contains meat, cheese and wine. What more could you possibly want? I was recently introduced to Basco Fine Foods. Although based in the UK, the company was founded by Javier De La Hormaza in 2012, who spent over a year travelling around Spain, visiting hundreds of local producers and tasting their produce with a view to import the finest foods Spain has to offer to us Brits. And they’re based in Yorkshire, which makes me happy, being a Yorkshire girl myself! The range of products really is amazing. They kindly sent me their Spanish Food Hamper, containing the following: Montanegra Iberico Ham: widely recognised as the best Spanish ham due to the diet of grass and acorns that the black Iberian pigs are fed on which results in a tender, deep red and delicious ham, rich and nutty in flavour. Montanegra Iberico Chorizo: a premium chorizo sausage made from selected cuts from the Iberian pig blended carefully with garlic, salt and smoked paprika for an incredibly rich, yet soft sausage …

September 2015: A New Job, A Bit of Baking and Fab Events!

Unlike August, September was a much quieter month on the blogging front for me. I started working at a new company and so was without a laptop for a while between jobs. Which made blogging near impossible! It was a very strange feeling – for the past nine months I’ve been posting nearly every weekday, so I felt weirdly out of the loop. But I still managed to get some posts out, so here’s a round-up for September in case you missed anything! Restaurants I visited… I tried out my first Bánh mì at Keu in Shoreditch. Read more here. I had a truly great brekkie at MUD in Tooting. Read more here. Tim and I had a fabulous tasting menu experience at Charlotte’s Place in Ealing. Read more here. Kelly joined me for some epic sandwiches and milkshakes at Potbelly in Stratford. Read more here. Events I attended… I was kindly invited by Zomato to a jamón carving masterclass, which was great fun (and lots of ham tasting!) Read more here. I also met the …

A Jamón Masterclass at Camino with Zomato UK

There’s a lot of butchery related posts on the blog at the moment, which makes me very happy! So far I’ve written mostly about beef, but recently I had my first experience of learning about and carving jamón (Spanish ham). I was kindly invited to a Zomato meet-up at Camino Southbank, so I assumed it would be an evening of tapas and sangria. But actually it was more of an educational evening about jamón, which was ideal, as I love to expand my knowledge of meats and how to prepare/serve them. And there was a lot of jamón tasting, of course! As I’ve mentioned previously, I adore Spanish ham and in my previous job I couldn’t wait for business trips to Madrid or Barcelona to get my mitts on some. I even took some all the way back to Cyprus once for Christmas (probably breaking some export laws there!) But while I loved the taste of it, I was certainly no expert. Chef Nacho del Campo introduced us to the Jamón Iberico Cebo ‘on display’ which we …
