Chateaubriand Sundays at Barbecoa, St Paul’s

Steak, steak, steak. There’s nothing I love more than a big juicy steak – I reckon at least half of my Instagram posts are steak (or at least meat!) focused and I’ve written about it countless times here on the blog, from restaurant reviews to butchery classes. But at the weekend, I had one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, and I’d even go as far as to say perhaps the best steak in London. It’s a bold claim, indeed! Where did this miraculously feat of beefy wonder occur? The usual Gaucho, or Hawksmoor? It was in fact at Barbecoa in St Paul’s. Let me tell you more… Tim and I visited Barbecoa quite a few years ago for brunch. This was at peak ‘brunch popularity’ time and we set ourselves a bit of a challenge of trying somewhere new each weekend. Barbecoa was very much a treat – we’d been wanting to go for ages. And it was very good indeed (this was pre-blogging days, hence it’s not on here. I still have …

A Spontaneous Dinner at Paternoster Chop House

On Friday night, Ceri and I decided to go for a spontaneous dinner. We’ve been trying out some of the restaurants around the St Paul’s area and this time, we tried Paternoster Chop House. For those of you who have been watching Channel 4’s hilariously entertaining ‘First Dates‘, you’ll know all about this place. I knew that their speciality was steak, so I always assumed it would be quite expensive, and more for special occasions. However, I came across the set menu on their website: Two courses for £19.50 or three for £24.50, which seemed very reasonable. Being a food blogger, I love a restaurant that’s on the ball with their social media. Just as I was leaving the office, I tweeted to say that Ceri and I would be visiting them that evening and within half an hour, I’d received a reply saying that there would be ‘two glasses of Chapel Down waiting for us on arrival‘. Fab customer service! I wasn’t sure if it would actually happen, but look what we were indeed …

Dinner & Cocktails at The Happenstance, St Paul’s

On Wednesday evening, I met up with Ceri for dinner at St Paul’s, which seems to be the best central point for us to meet after work. Recently we’ve been going to the chain restaurants in One New Change, but this week we thought we’d try somewhere new. I looked up restaurants around the St Paul’s area and came across The Happenstance – the name really caught my eye, it sounded very unique! The restaurant’s website describes itself as the following: “immerse yourself in a world of curiously good times & happy coincidences at the happenstance. It’s sure to be a welcome addition to your little black book. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of london’s most iconic landmark, st paul’s, whilst our sophisticated interior encompasses a striking bar & restaurant, bountiful deli, mixology table & florist. Our glamorous subterranean private dining room or hidden speak easy “the curious treasury” awaits.” So I had pretty high expectations! When we arrived, I was worried that I really hadn’t thought this through – Thursday nights are traditionally when people working …
