September 2015: A New Job, A Bit of Baking and Fab Events!

Unlike August, September was a much quieter month on the blogging front for me. I started working at a new company and so was without a laptop for a while between jobs. Which made blogging near impossible! It was a very strange feeling – for the past nine months I’ve been posting nearly every weekday, so I felt weirdly out of the loop. But I still managed to get some posts out, so here’s a round-up for September in case you missed anything! Restaurants I visited… I tried out my first Bánh mì at Keu in Shoreditch. Read more here. I had a truly great brekkie at MUD in Tooting. Read more here. Tim and I had a fabulous tasting menu experience at Charlotte’s Place in Ealing. Read more here. Kelly joined me for some epic sandwiches and milkshakes at Potbelly in Stratford. Read more here. Events I attended… I was kindly invited by Zomato to a jamón carving masterclass, which was great fun (and lots of ham tasting!) Read more here. I also met the …

August 2015: A house, a kitten, and lots of blogging!

Hello all! As I’m posting quite a lot on the blog now, I thought it might be nice to do a little round-up of the things I’ve written about at the end of each month, collated in one post. So here’s my first one for August! And it has been a busy month! We exchanged, completed and moved into our very first house in Tooting, and at the weekend, we got our first kitten, Dexter (yes, named after the TV show serial killer!) A month of firsts, big expenditure and lots and lots of packing boxes (which Dexter seems to be having a lot of fun with!) I’ve still somehow managed to keep up with blogging, alongside my day job, so here’s what I wrote about on the blog this month! Restaurants/Pop-ups I visited… I visited a very cool Berlin Brunch pop-up in London. Read more here. I tucked into gourmet sandwiches, salads and puds at Aline in Mayfair (possibly the most I’ve ever eaten in one sitting!). Read more here. For Afternoon Tea Week, I tried …

Breakfast at MUD, Tooting

Since moving to Tooting a few weeks ago, we’d noticed a queue outside a coffee shop at the weekend whenever we walked past. This place was clearly popular! Last Saturday we headed over to ‘Mud’ in the morning to see what all the fuss was about. Luckily we had just beaten the ‘brunch rush’ and managed to get a table for breakfast. We were served quickly, ordering a couple of iced mochas and fresh orange juices, and the waitress was very friendly. Actually, the place had a very friendly vibe in general. The fact that it was one of the hottest, nicest days of the year might have helped, but everyone was smiling and you could tell that lots of regulars were coming in, as they chatted away to the staff behind the counter. I heard one of the groups ask if they could sit ‘in the garden at the back’ – I’m not sure if this is a closely guarded secret, but I’m keen to check it out next time. I also loved the decor …

Dinner at Chicken Shop, Tooting

We’re currently looking to buy a house in Tooting, which is proving to be a very stressful and time consuming process. We were close to buying one, until we found it had a killer plant called Japanese Knotweed. And so it was sadly back to the drawing board. Last week we looked at a couple of properties after work and we were starving – it’s over an hour from Tooting to where we currently live, so we thought we’d try out somewhere there. Tooting really seems to be growing in popularity at the moment, with lots of cool restaurants opening in the area. One of these is Chicken Shop, owned by the Soho House Group, which currently has branches in Tooting, Kentish Town, Whitechapel, Holborn, and rather randomly, Chicago. The premise of Chicken Shop is pretty simple (much like most of the new restaurants popping up these days). You pick a whole, half or quarter chicken and then order some sides, from crinkle cut fries, coleslaw, corn on the cob or butter lettuce & avocado …
