Gluten-free Italian cooking with Coori

It’s taken me quite a while to write this blog post. I always try to write up a post a few days after reviewing something or attending an event, but this one has taken me considerably longer. Not because I’m being lazy, or because I didn’t like it. But because I really felt like I needed to do it justice. I know a couple of people who can’t eat gluten but I’m rather embarrassed to admit that I didn’t really know the full scale of gluten-intolerance or coeliac disease. So when I was invited to a Coori cookery class, I hoped that I would learn a lot about this subject. The class was being held at Food at 52, near Old Street and upon arrival, I was greeted with a mountain of Coori food products, many of which we were available to try and were really tasty. Coori was set up by gluten-intolerant Italian Julia Zardetto, who saw a gap in the market for gluten-free items without sacrificing the flavour. She set out to create well …

Lunch at Arancini Brothers, Old Street

You may have seen in my post earlier this week about the Moretti Gran Tour that I tried some risotto balls from Arancini Brothers – they were gorgeous and I was definitely left wanting more! Luckily, the guys were kind enough to give me a voucher to try one of their wraps from their Old Street shop. Very convenient considering I work close to there! One day this week, I decided to give it a try during my lunch hour. It was a bit of a longer walk than I was expecting so I was pretty hungry when I arrived, pleased to see the signature orange exterior in front of me. I wasn’t sure if it would just be a ‘take out’ style place, but they also have tables and chairs where you can quite happily have a nice, quick meal. I liked how the art on the wall charted the story of the business, I thought that was a nice touch. I was a little overwhelmed by the menu when I first looked up …

Healthy Lunches With Huna Blends

I really would like to eat more healthily, especially at lunch time. I love my food and there’s nothing I like better than tucking into a good sandwich in my lunch hour. But I usually feel a bit bloated and sleepy afterwards, and I know I’m not doing myself any favours. But it’s hard to kick the habit! So when I learned about a new healthy food pop-up called Huna Blends opening just around the corner from my office in Shoreditch, I was keen to see what it had to offer. Huna Blends sells ‘Manna Bowl Meals’ and Power Shakes. Now I’m sure you can work out what the latter is, but perhaps not the former, as they’re the first company to bring them to the UK. The Manna Bowl meal is a cold-blend bowl served as a thick sorbet (a granita of non-dairy milk – hemp, coconut or almond) with a choice of two different crunchy toppings. ‘Crunch A’ consists of toasted buckwheat, crisped rice, mixed seeds, dried fruit and coconut. ‘Crunch B’ is …
