Dinner at Chicken Shop, Tooting

We’re currently looking to buy a house in Tooting, which is proving to be a very stressful and time consuming process. We were close to buying one, until we found it had a killer plant called Japanese Knotweed. And so it was sadly back to the drawing board. Last week we looked at a couple of properties after work and we were starving – it’s over an hour from Tooting to where we currently live, so we thought we’d try out somewhere there. Tooting really seems to be growing in popularity at the moment, with lots of cool restaurants opening in the area. One of these is Chicken Shop, owned by the Soho House Group, which currently has branches in Tooting, Kentish Town, Whitechapel, Holborn, and rather randomly, Chicago. The premise of Chicken Shop is pretty simple (much like most of the new restaurants popping up these days). You pick a whole, half or quarter chicken and then order some sides, from crinkle cut fries, coleslaw, corn on the cob or butter lettuce & avocado …

Breakfast at Foxcroft & Ginger, Whitechapel

Breakfast or brunch might just be my favourite meal of the day (provided it’s done right, of course, which usually means with plenty of meat and bread, in my case!) And there are lots of great spots to go for breakfast around where I live in East London. A while ago, I noticed a place called ‘Foxcroft & Ginger‘ in Whitechapel when I was passing on the bus, and had been meaning to give it a go. So when I was offered the chance to try out their breakfast last week, I was really looking forward to it.     You might not notice it during the day – it’s one of the many shops and restaurants on Mile End road. The reason I spotted it in the first place was because it was dark and the name was lit up in bright lights – it looked so cosy and inviting, but cool and a bit edgy at the same time.
